You don’t really know how poor quality most of the fabric in our high street stores is, until you’ve seen and felt the real thing. Sixty years ago, in the time of our grandmother’s youth, materials were thicker, better hanging and longer lasting. The Balenciaga exhibition at the Victoria and Albert museum shows us the artistic heights fashion can reach when quality fabrics are employed.
